New Issue Preview: A Sneak Peak Into Our Shoot With Shapeshifter!

Even though we got to work with some epic women on our latest issue, including the likes of Rita Ora and Melanie Blatt, we also got to work with some equally epic gentlemen.

The boys from Shapeshifter were one of the highlights, so we thought we'd give you a preview of our shoot and interview with them!

"Tiki [Taane] is an incredible artist with lots of integrity and he knows his shit! When we started... we were challenging him in that sense but were also giving him a project to hone and test his sound engineering skills out. He's a beast!

- P Diggs

"Our inspirations are definitely not just isolated to NZ, like we take a lot of influence from around the world, from experiences, from people and from listening to music. Everything can be inspiring and get the juices flowing from a market in Shanghai to a walk in the bush."

- Devin Abrams

"[New album 'Delta'] is a progression but it is still definitely Shapeshifter. It was a balance of being able to explore more. If you compare it to our first album it's got a similar sound and vibe. It's also about respecting our heritage and it's that kind of balance we need to look out for."

- Nick Robinson

BEER WITH MARC MOORE

Words by Steven Fernandez.

He might be the co-founder and director behind one of New Zealand’s most popular fashion houses, but Marc Moore is still just a guy keen to kick back over a beer and a surf.

His team over at Stolen Girlfriends Club is known to mull over design ideas with the help of a few bottles of Steinlager Pure!

“As a team we like to get inspired over a few beers – we relax, we chat and some of our best ideas hit us!  We know there are no magical qualities in Steinlager Pure, but relaxing with good mates or good company certainly unblocks the mind,” says Marc.

Moore says that the partnership between Stolen Girlfriend Club and Steinlager Pure has been one of the key reasons the brand has been able to turn dreams into reality and put on shows that deliver their message to a wider audience.

Last month Moore and Stolen Girlfriends Club did just that, debuting their 2013 winter collection with a fashion show that featured both models and the new Mini Paceman!

“Both Steinlager and Stolen are from New Zealand – most people would say that this is a disadvantage being so isolated from the rest of the world, but I think it presents a challenge that makes us strive harder in every way,” says Marc.

“Both our brands, products and messages need to be innovative and unique in order to stand out from everyone else when we're on the world-stage.  This means we need to think differently, act differently and be proud of where we are from, not afraid to think big and push the boundaries.”

Stolen Girlfriends Club currently sells its collection to high-end boutiques in thirteen markets around the globe. Although they distribute largely to New Zealand and Australia, the brand is present in destinations as far as Russia, Asia and the Middle East.

Steinlager is now sold in twenty countries worldwide, making it New Zealand's biggest export beer. For more information, please see www.steinlager.com and keep up to date with all the latest news by ‘liking’ the official Facebook page www.facebook.com/steinlager

Moochi Celebrate 13 Years With Winter Collection

Words by Steven Fernandez.

The launch of the moochi 2013 winter collection marks 13 years of fashion-forward thinking for one of New Zealand’s most unique and wearable female labels.

The new collection ‘Silver Linings’ is a combination of texture and proportion to forge a winter range of black in fabrics velvet, neoprene, mesh and leather.

‘Silver Linings’ is athletic and strong, with the familiar feminine features of moochi. The dresses are standout and commanding, with the functionality and wearability core to the brand.

And the winter collection comes at the end of what has already been a massive year for the Kiwi brand founded by husband and wife, Chris and Kellie Taylor.

Last year more than a quarter of a million people came through the doors of moochi boutiques nationwide, and each year the number of customers purchasing has increased. An overwhelming 286,000 people visited the Moochi online store in 2012.

“My vision for moochi was always to develop a unique, wearable, fashion forward label that women would love. The range includes everything from the perfect t-shirt to a party frock, must-have trousers to sexy heels,” says Creative Director Kellie Taylor.

“The key for us is to create demand for desirable product, made in limited numbers, with new styles arriving in store every week. It’s all about keeping people inspired and interested with clothing that’s relevant.”

All designs are created in house at the moochi head office with a team of designers. Products are mostly made in New Zealand, with pattern making, fabric cutting, sewing and pressing all happening locally to feed the growing databse of 30,000 loyal customers.

The brilliance of this much-loved local label is manifested in the brand new ‘Ponsonby conservatory’ store in Auckland. It features a floating wall of brass rods, a flood of natural light through bamboo leaves and crystal objects to display its jewellery. Natural edged timber shelves have a high gloss finish and a counter of brass, copper and silver blades anchored by a vintage chandelier.

“Our newest store on Ponsonby Road has quite a feminine feel, it has more bling, and is far more intimate, like a dream walk in wardrobe,” says Kellie.

“Every new store we work on features the best elements that are carried through from the previous boutique so it’s an evolution of sorts. But we always add new elements to the mix so that we have an individual store that enhances its surroundings and appeals to its local audiences.”

Celebrate 13 years of moochi by getting down to the new Ponsonby store and checking out the winter 2013 collection ‘Silver Linings’ or by jumping across to their online store www.moochi.co.nz.
